The First Nations Project was born out of the desire to create peace and possibility through yoga right here at home. As a North American Foundation, the international work that Olive Tree does is important; however, there is no need to travel overseas to encounter populations which could benefit from the practice of yoga in a culturally-respectful context. We believe that yoga is surely useful for physical health but that it also can help address issues of depression, anxiety, substance abuse and trauma. With that conviction, we hope to bring yoga on-reserve to reach as many native communities as possible, from urban to far-flung rural and northern settlements. The projects we offer will be tailored to the needs of each individual reserve, and we will work in direct relationship with those we serve to create something brand new and totally specific every time we enter a community. We are so excited to grow this project, and would love to hear where and how you think we might be of service to First Nations in Canada and the United States.
